Poulter: I have it all to do
by Richard Field, 11 May 2008
Ian Poulter still fancies his chances of winning The Players Championship despite shooting a one-over 73 in the third round.
Paul Goydos, 43, is leading the way at TPC Sawgrass and Poulter was talking up his chances on Setanta Sports despite trailing the leader by seven shots.
“I bogeyed the fifth and 15th holes, I doubled 18 today [Saturday] and a par at 16, that’s five shots you know and five shots in this golf tournament right now is lying pretty nice.
“So if I go and shoot five-under tomorrow and hole all the putts and play as good as I have been playing, if I don’t make any mistakes that might be enough to win this golf tournament.”
Goydos struck a 70 to reach seven-under and hold a one shot advantage over another journeyman pro Kenny Perry.
"This is why we play. We don't play for any other reason than trying to test yourself and go out there and do the best you can," Goydos said.
"This is why I've been playing and practicing for the last, who knows how many years, 30 years, I guess, now.
“It's a good opportunity, it's a great field, it's a great golf course. I'm hoping the weather holds off. I think Sunday here, it's going to be a great experience irrespective of the outcome."
