Eustace hopeful for War
by Oli Skehan , 13 May 2008

York racecourse

James Eustace is hoping that War Artist's bid to land his first race in the northern hemisphere at York on Wednesday will not be scuppered by the draw.

The former South African speed-machine will emerge from stall one in the Duke of York Hearthstead Homes Stakes on the Knavesmire.

"We've got a horrible draw. The only draw I didn't want was one and that's what we've got, but if there's speed on our side then it's not so bad," Eustace told PA.

"Anyway, we are stuck there and we'll have to make the best of it.

"I think he's a hold-up horse looking at his South African races. When he won his Grade One he came from way back and just got up on the line over six. It's a sharp six, so he won't be leading.

"Whatever happens I just hope Kerrin [McEvoy] can drop him in and get the rub of the green."

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“Storm in a tea cup. Dementieva's English isn't 100% and her comments have been totally misinterpreted. There was no suggestion of a fix at all. All she meant was that the championship would be decided between the sisters. Not that Serena or Venus would conspire to fix the result. Lost in translation anyone?”
