Schwartzel expecting a scrap

Madrid Masters leader Charl Schwartzel says he is expecting a ‘battle’ on the final day with the rampaging Ricardo Gonzalez.

‘Shrek’ has been bothered by illness and a sore shoulder this week, but he posted a five-under 66 in the third round, to hold a slender one-shot lead over Gonzalez who came from nowhere with a 62.

“Sixty-two is a great score, and tomorrow [Sunday] we’ll have a good battle,” the South African leader said.

“I will try to do the same as the last three days and stick to my game plan. I’m hitting the ball well and I’m confident in my swing.

“I’ve got a good chance.”

Argentine, Gonzalez, blitzed the back nine and he is feeling comfortable in familiar surroundings.

“Spain is like a second home, and I feel very good here,” explained Gonzalez.

“I’ll feel a little bit of pressure, but I’ll try to make a good score again and play well.”

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“While all big teams (Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool) were busy protecting their best players, Arsenal was in forefront encouraging injury prone Walcott to participate in that useless freindly. Arsenal has a very thin squad and I remember Walcott said it but Wenger didn't take action to add some players. Arsenal players are not made of steel and Wenger should be prepared for such situation. We need Arsenal supporters on the board of Arsenal who can feel the way we feel when the team is losing and they can force Wenger to buy some experience players. Current board members are only interested in profits yet they (profits) don't go into history of the club”
