Hopkins relishing Pavlik battle
by Tony Cuddihy, 12 October 2008
Bernard Hopkins is confident of victory when he comes up against Kelly Pavlik in Atlantic City next Saturday night.
The 43-year-old believes he can roll back the years to defeat the man known as 'The Ghost' and, in the process, banish the memories of his last fight, the defeat to Joe Calzaghe.
"Everyone has weaknesses. even I. There is no perfect figther and there never will be," he said.
"When I punch I leave myself open. When Kelly Pavlik punches, he leaves himself open.
"Every time you throw a punch you leave yourself vulnerable to a counter. It's a question of who counters first, who gets there first."
Hopkins reckons the impending spectacle will be something to behold, given the contrasting styles between himself and Pavlik.
"You have an offensive guy and a defensive guy. It's the perfect match," he enthused.
"There won't be a strategy put out there but I know in the fight a mad truck will coming at me. People ask can Bernard Hopkins derail it? I will flatten the tyres, slow it up and it will conk out on October 18."
