Armstrong to ride in The Giro
by Mark Doyle, 13 October 2008
Lance Armstrong has confirmed his intention to compete in next year’s Giro d’Italia.
The 37-year-old American sent shockwaves through the sport when he announced last month that he would be coming out of retirement to ride in the Tour de France once again in order to promote his charity work for cancer research.
Armstrong then revealed that he would begin his comeback at the Tour Down Under in January of next year.
He has now sprung a surprise by agreeing to race in the Giro, an event which he had always shunned during his career in order to fully focus his attention on the Tour de France, which he won seven times.
"I'm so excited to be coming to the 2009 Giro. I raced a long time professionally and never did the Giro," Armstrong stated.
"It was one of my biggest regrets and now I'm going to be able to erase that regret and be at the 2009 Giro. And who knows, maybe with a good result."
