Curtis set for World Cup debut
by Michelle Fortune, 13 October 2008

Ben Curtis

Ben Curtis and Brandt Snedeker have been confirmed as the US team for next month's Omega Mission Hills World Cup in China.

Former Open Champion Curtis finished in a tie for second place in the US PGA Championship and was a member of the victorious US Ryder Cup team at Valhalla last month.

Boo Weekley and Heath Slocum represented the US in 2007 and finished second to Scotland's Colin Montgomerie and Marc Warren.

Montgomerie will once again represent Scotland with Alastair Forsyth joining him for the competition which gets under way in Shenzhen on November 27.

The World Cup format is 72 holes of strokeplay, alternating with rounds of fourball and foursomes, and will feature several European Ryder Cup stars with Ian Poulter teaming up with Ross Fisher to represent England.

Ireland's team is made up of Graeme McDowell and Paul McGinley, while Bradley Dredge and Richard Johnson will carry the hopes of Wales.

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“While all big teams (Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool) were busy protecting their best players, Arsenal was in forefront encouraging injury prone Walcott to participate in that useless freindly. Arsenal has a very thin squad and I remember Walcott said it but Wenger didn't take action to add some players. Arsenal players are not made of steel and Wenger should be prepared for such situation. We need Arsenal supporters on the board of Arsenal who can feel the way we feel when the team is losing and they can force Wenger to buy some experience players. Current board members are only interested in profits yet they (profits) don't go into history of the club”
