Murrays' Madrid doubles tilt ended
by Joseph Caron Dawe, 13 October 2008
Andy and Jamie Murray fell at the first hurdle in Madrid on Monday as the Scottish duo were dumped out of the Masters by Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra in straight sets.
The brothers were seen off in less than an hour by their French opponents, who won out 6-4 6-3.
The Murrays saved one break point in the first set before going down on a second – on Andy’s serve – to give Clement and Llodra the set.
Andy was then broken again early in the second set and the Murrays passed up a chance to break back in the seventh game after going 0-30 up. The French pair won that game and then went on to take the set and secure the match.
Andy’s focus now turns to his singles campaign, which starts off against Italian Simone Bolelli in the second round after he received a bye in the first.
The game will be Murray’s first ATP Tour match since his losing US Open final appearance last month, and he could be drawn against Roger Federer – who beat him in the showpiece at Flushing Meadows – in the semi final in Madrid should he make it that far.
