Oviedo out with broken foot
Everton’s Bryan Oviedo will miss the final four games of the season after breaking a metatarsal in his foot during training.
Oviedo had been due to feature in Thursday’s Under-21 clash with Liverpool as he closed in on a return from a hamstring problem, but his season is now over after he fractured the fifth metatarsal in his foot.
“We had a really disappointing situation with Bryan Oviedo in training. He has fractured his fifth metatarsal, which is incredible bad luck,” Martinez told reporters.
“He was in a great moment of form and looking forward to getting back into the squad and finishing the season playing.
“It was a very unfortunate action on his own and he is going to be out for the rest of the season. He was trying to get on the ball and his ankle rolled in a very awkward position.”
Oviedo suffered a double leg fracture in January 2014 and missed last summer’s World Cup. He will not be unavailable for Costa Rica at the Gold Cup this June.
“It’s not the leg that he had his breakage – it’s his other leg – so it is a completely different injury. It’s very unfortunate,” Martinez added.
“He’s going to be out for the rest of the season and will miss being with Costa Rica at the Gold Cup.”
