Striker happy in Wigan

New Wigan signing Marcelo Moreno has said he is happy with the Latics after they ended his nightmare spell with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Bolivian international only spent 18 months in the Ukraine with Shakhtar and having failed to settle the 22-year-old was sent out on loan to Werder Bremen.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has now taken a punt on Moreno, who made his first start for the club against Bolton in midweek, much to the delight of the striker.

"I was all alone in Ukraine for four months. No friends and no family," Moreno told the Daily Mirror.

"I didn't speak the language. Even when I went to the supermarket there was nothing I recognised. "

It was a low time for me, but I don't have any regrets about going there, it made me develop as a person and a player.

"I feel at home here because the manager speaks Spanish, it helps me understand the tactics. "

Some of the players speak Spanish too, but we talk English on the pitch."
