Sharapova sees off Arvidsson

Maria Sharapova captured her first title of 2010 with victory over Sofia Arvidsson in the final of the Cellular South Cup in Memphis.

The former world number one proved to be too much for the plucky Swede to handle as Sharapova bounced back from her first round exit at the Australian Open by winning 6-2 6-1.

The Russian broke the 2006 Memphis champion four times and won 81% of her service points as she outclassed Arvidsson who had qualified for the final by beating Britain's Anne Keothavong in the semis.

Sharapova will move up to 13th in the world rankings with this victory and she feels that slowly but surely she is starting to rediscover some form.

"I came here for matches - I got five and I got the win, so it was a good week. I served and returned well - two things that are very important indoors," said the former Wimbledon champion.

"I also did the right things against Sofia. I worked hard after the Australian Open and little by little things are coming along."
