Nigel Twiston-Davies and Paddy Brennan were celebrating after Razor Royale survived a spectacular mishap at the last fence to win the Racing Post Chase at Kempton on Saturday.
Nacaret had made a valiant bid to become the first horse to win back-to-back runnings since Docklands Express in 1992 but did not have enough in the tank to trouble Brennan's mount.
Nacaret had given 17lb in weight to Razor Royale and that looked to be the difference as the pair approached the last. A howler by Razor Royale allowed the bold-jumping grey in but, despite having no reins for the final 100 yards, Brennan managed to coax the 11-1 outsider home in first place.
Le Burf took third place, 25 lengths back.
Carl Llewellyn, Twiston-Davies' assistant, said: "He dug very deep today. He won well at Cheltenham a few starts back but at Sandown last time he made early mistakes and never recovered and he nearly threw it away today.
"I thought AP (McCoy) would get him after the last as he's the last man you want to see there, but he found plenty.
"He's toughened up this year, he's been hard to train in the past but has held his form well this year.
"He might be a National horse. He'll jump better on better ground but he'd need to after that."
