Portsmouth defender Marc Wilson says he had no qualms about opting to represent the Republic of Ireland rather than Northern Ireland.
The 22-year-old is in Giovanni Trapattoni's squad for the first time for Tuesday evening's friendly against Brazil at the Emirates Stadium, that despite having been capped by the North at U15 level and also in an U17 friendly.
The player, who hails from outside Lurgan in County Armagh, has been one of the better performers for crisis club Pompey this season and is likely to make his international bow against Brazil.
And while controversy has arisen again in the last week after Everton defender Shane Duffy followed the example of Manchester United's Darron Gibson in playing for the Republic despite being born north of the border, Wilson says for him the decision was made a long time ago.
"It was an easy decision. They (the IFA) were in contact a long time ago, but not since then," he was quoted as saying by the Irish Independent.
"It wasn't up for discussion. I've always supported the Republic of Ireland since I was growing up.
"The manager (Nigel Worthington) wants to have as many players in his squad as he can but I think if the player doesn't want to play, it's his decision. That's what it boils down to."
Wilson, meanwhile, has also hinted that midfielder Jamie O'Hara - currently a club-mate of his on loan from Tottenham Hotspur - will also become a Republic of Ireland player after discussions with FAI representatives.
