Ireland drop in the rankings

by Tony Cuddihy , 03 March 2010

The Republic of Ireland have dropped two places to 39th in the FIFA World Rankings.

Giovanni Trapattoni's men pay the price for their failure to reach the World Cup Finals in South Africa this summer, and lie just one place ahead of Northern Ireland.

England are up to eighth after swapping places with Argentina, while Spain remain in top place ahead of Brazil and the Netherlands.

Scotland move up one place to 45th while Wales remain 76th.
