The European Tour returns this weekend with the action happening at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club as the home players look to try and break a 48-year duck at their home event.
The home challenge will be spearheaded by Danny Chia, with compatriots Ben Leong, Iain Steel, Shaaban Hussin and P. Gunasegaran all also in action at the USD2 million event, which is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour.
Korean-born US player Anthony Kang took the honours in Malaysia a year ago and he is back to defend his title. Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, could be the man to watch though.
The Thai star has already won this event on two occasions and is in good form, having reached the quarter-finals of the recent Accenture Match Play Championship and if he can outsmart the many Kuala Lumpur water hazards he could well go all the way.
Soren Hansen is also involved and it is fair to say that the Dane can alweays be a threat whenever he takes to the golf course. He has shown solid if unspectacular form this year, but the law of averages surely hints that a player of his ability should soon be adding to the disappointing two tournament victories that are all he has achieved to date.
As for Darren Clarke, it has been more than a year since the Irishman's last win and, while his game remains speckled with errors, he has gotten into some decent positions in recent events.
A win in Malaysia might just remind European captain Colin Montgomerie that Clarke has every intention of getting back into the Ryder Cup fold for the Celtic Manor event later this year.
