Baines delighted with England debut

Everton left-back Leighton Baines was delighted to get the full 90 minutes for England as they beat Egypt 3-1 at Wembley on Wednesday night.

The defender did his chances of going to South Africa no harm with a competent performance against the African Champions and to play the whole match was a bonus to the debutant.

"It makes me feel good to get the full 90 minutes," Baines told Sky Sports News.

"I was just hoping to play some part. I wasn't sure whether I would start or if Stevie [Warnock] would start.

"And even if I would get 20 minutes at the end, so I was very happy when the manager named the team to be starting and to get the full 90 minutes too was very nice.

"It's all happened quite quickly but you have got to take your chance if it comes along.

"The next meet-up is not until May now and I have got to make sure I am in that.

"The more time I get to spend with the (England) squad, the better it will be. You can build up relationships then. I've just got to keep playing as well as I can for Everton.

"Playing 90 minutes has been a big confidence boost and I've just got to keep it going. It would be a dream if I managed to get to the World Cup."
