Tommy Haas is to miss several months of the season after undergoing surgery on his right hip last weekend.
The 12-time winner has suffered a catalogue of injuries throughout his career, including two broken ankles and three shoulder operations, while he took a year off to care for his parents following a serious car accident.
The latest injury required the German to undergo surgery, which took place at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Colorado last weekend, and he is now in a fight to be ready for the French Open and Wimbledon.
"Haas will be unable to practice and compete for the next several months and will be sidelined at the upcoming ATP Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami," a Team Lagardere statement read.
Haas reached number two in the rankings in 2002 and he is determined to return to the sport when he has fully recovered from the operation.
"This is just another hurdle in my career," he said.
"I have faced many obstacles before and I know what it takes to get back out there and on the top of my game."
