Shaw blow for England

by Mark Doyle , 08 March 2010

England's Simon Shaw has been ruled out of Saturday's RBS 6 Nations clash with Scotland with a shoulder problem.

The veteran lock was forced off just four minutes into the defeat by Ireland a fortnight ago because of an injury to his acromioclavicular (AC) joint.

It had been feared that there might be further damage to the shoulder but an MRI last Thursday proved otherwise.

Consequently, while Shaw will miss the trip to Murrayfield, he could yet play some part in the crunch Championship clash with France in Paris on March 20.

Tom Palmer has been called into the England squad as a result of Shaw's unavailability.

Meanwhile, Delon Armitage is recovering well from the rib injury he sustained against the Irish but it is not yet known if he will be fit to face Scotland.
