WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan will make his US boxing debut on May 15 against New York fighter Paulie Malignaggi.
There had been suggestions Khan may be set for a US debut against highly-rated Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, but Khan's promoters Golden Boy Promotions have released a statement saying his bout with Malignaggi will be officially announced at a press conference in London on Friday.
Golden Boy said: "WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan and former light-welterweight world champion Paulie Malignaggi will hold a press conference in London to announce their world title bout set for Saturday, May 15 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. "
The fight marks Khan's United States debut which will take place in the backyard of New York's Malignaggi."
Khan was last in action in December when he saw off Dmitriy Salita in Newcastle, Malignaggi is perhaps best known in the UK after being stopped in the 11th round by Ricky Hatton in 2008.
