Kanu wants to earn Wembley place

Kanu is hoping that he can earn a recall for Portsmouth's FA Cup semi-final on April 11 after scoring a late consolation on Tuesday night.

The Nigerian striker headed home in injury-time after replacing Michael Brown on 65 minutes, which brought a much-needed end to his three-month goal drought.

The veteran ex-Ajax and Inter striker is keen to go on a scoring run which can force him back into boss Avram Grant's line-up for the big Wembley date against either Fulham or Tottenham.

"I enjoyed my goal and I will always try to keep on scoring, especially when it's been such a long time," Kanu said.

"Hopefully, I can keep doing it for Wembley and get back in the team for that.

"But the most important thing at the moment is the league, so everybody was disappointed.

"Perhaps we were a little bit tired, I am not so sure.

"But we have to keep on playing, especially in the position we are in. There is no excuse for what happened last night, we just didn't play well."
