Manchester United eased to a commanding 4-0 win over AC Milan at Old Trafford on Wednesday to book their place in the Champions League quarter-finals, going through 7-2 on aggregate.
Wayne Rooney put the hosts in front early on before adding a second. Ji Sung Park and Darren Fletcher completed what proved in the end to be a rout.
David Beckham watched on from the Milan bench as Rooney turned and shot wide early on when Nani was probably in a better position, the Portuguese winger then drawing a save from Christian Abbiati.
Thirteen minutes in, the England man did much better as captain Gary Neville curled in a magnificent cross from the right and an unmarked Rooney headed the ball over the line with Abbiati badly exposed.
Milan tried to get back into the game and Edwin van der Sar needed a second attempt to deny an Andrea Pirlo effort, but chances were becoming very scarce for the Rossoneri as the likes of Ronaldinho, Klaus Jan Huntelaar and Marco Boriello failed to get into the game.
Fletcher sent a shot wide just before the break for the hosts, but less than a minute after the restart they did find the net and Milan were out.
Nani collected the ball on the left and bombed forward before selecting just the right time to lay the ball off as Rooney scampered through the middle. Rooney then steered the ball brilliantly beyond the onrushing Abbiati for his 30th goal of the season.
Their night was summed up when Ignazio Abate crossed for Huntelaar to head a good chance over, and just a few minutes later United scored their third as Paul Scholes slid the ball through to Park on the right of the Milan area and the South Korean star kept his feet to bury a low shot in the far corner from a tight angle.
Beckham came on and stung the fists of van der Sar with a sensational volley with 15 minutes to play but even the Old Trafford legend could not do anything to swing the tie any closer back Milan's way and United completed their victory with three minutes to go.
Sub Rafael da Silva got the ball on the right and sent in a cross to the far post where no Milan player had tracked Fletcher, the Scot heading past Abbiati for his first Champions League goal, making it 7-2 overall in the tie.
