McLeish plays down speculation

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has dismissed reports West Ham are interested in Liam Ridgewell, Christian Benitez and Seb Larsson.

There have been suggestions recently that the Hammers, who are now owned by former Birmingham chiefs David Sullivan and David Gold, want the trio and will launch an audacious summer swoop for them.

Ridgewell and Larsson are out of contract at St Andrew's in the summer but Blues are hoping to tie them down to new deals soon and talks are ongoing.

McLeish has laughed off the reports of West Ham's apparent interest in the players and says it is all part of the banter of top-flight football these days.

"I'm not annoyed. It's good fun, all part of the banter," said the former Rangers manager.

"I'm not surprised by anything I read in the papers or see in the media nowadays. "

The mind games, the Premier League's high profile, all makes for good reading and you get a good laugh sometimes."
