Martin O'Neill will give Gabriel Agbonlahor as much time as possible to prove his fitness ahead of Saturday's trip to Stoke.
The England international missed last weekend's FA Cup quarter-final victory over Reading with a stomach bug and, despite returning to training this week, is still rated as doubtful for the game at the Britannia Stadium.
Should Agbonlahor return to the starting line-up, O'Neill will have to decide whether to drop last week's hat-trick hero John Carew or Emile Heskey.
Elsewhere Villa have no new injury concerns with Nigel Reo-Coker still out with an ankle fracture while forgotten man Marlon Harewood will be sidelined until April with a broken metatarsal.
