Scholes to make way

Michael Carrick returns to the Manchester United squad after suspension for Sunday's game against Fulham and will replace Paul Scholes.

Carrick was banned for Wednesday's hammering of AC Milan but is now free to return for the visit of Roy Hodgson's men.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson tends to use Scholes selectively these days so despite a goalscoring contribution at Wolves last weekend and an impressive turn in midweek, the former England man can expect to make way for the younger player.

Ryan Giggs is still a week away from a return after breaking his arm last month, while Ritchie De Laet is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a leg injury in the reserve team encounter with Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Fergie has spoken of his admiration for the Fulham manager and what he has achieved for the club.

He said: "What Roy has done there is a remarkable story. "

When he came in they were third-from-bottom and now they are playing in Europe - and they're not out of that tie either with that away goal.

"He's brought his experience and authority, they play with great discipline and that's down to the manager. He's formed a team no-one wants to play against. They are well organised, they're a good possession team and they pass the ball well. "

He's turned the whole club round and it won't be an easy game for us on Sunday."
