Dublin remain unbeaten

Dublin moved two points clear at the top of the Allianz GAA Football National League Division One table thanks to a 2-11 to 1-9 win over Monaghan at Parnell Park on Saturday night.

Monaghan led 0-3 to 0-1 after nine minutes thanks to points from placed balls by Paul Finlay and Conor McManus after Ross McConnell had opened the scoring for the Dubs in the first minute.

Bernard Brogan then scored his second goal in as many games, clipping a soccer-style shot home after a pass from Kevin McManamon. Brogan added a superb point seven minutes later to leave his side 1-3 to 0-3 ahead.

Eamon Fennell pitched in with his by now customary point from play to leave the Dubs 1-6 to 0-5 ahead at the break.

Monaghan's hopes looked all but over when Dessie Mone was sent off for a second yellow card after 41 minutes, but Tommy Freeman had the visitors level with a wonder goal just a minute later. A high ball was aimed at Rory Woods, but it fell for Freeman, who unleashed a rocket past Stephen Cluxton from a tight angle.

The Farney men then took the lead when Woods fired over, but Darren Magee responded to level the game for the Dubs with 20 minutes left.

Dublin found their second goal of the night when Magee claimed a mark in the centre of the field and fed Brogan, who turned provider with a great ball for Kevin McManamon to send a low shot to the back of the net.

They dominated the closing stages and Brogan scored two of Dublin's five unanswered points as they ran out comfortable winners in the end.
