Benitez under no pressure

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez insists he is not feeling the pressure as he prepares for a massive week in the club's season.

The Reds were humbled 1-0 at Wigan last Monday to lose ground in the race to finish in the top four before suffering a similar result in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash against Lille.

What punters looking to use their free bet make of Benitez's comments remains to be seen, but he insists that he is not feeling the heat and certainly has not given up hope on his guarantee of a Champions League place.

"I don't feel under pressure. I am disappointed for the season but we can still fight and still improve," Benitez said.

"Against Portsmouth we have to prove this determination and then afterwards against Lille.

"We know the season is not good enough.

"Every game will be important and the next one against Portsmouth is the most important as we try to get close to the top four.

"It is clear we cannot lose too many points so we have to start winning, beginning with this game."

Liverpool, who are currently in sixth place and four points behind Spurs, entertain Portsmouth on Monday looking to avenge the 2-0 reverse at Fratton Park just before Christmas.

The Reds cannot afford any slip-ups as Manchester City and Aston Villa are firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish and both have two games in hand.

Liverpool will then host Lille on Thursday in their last hope of silverware this season, the Europa League, before a huge trip to arch rivals Manchester United next Sunday.
