McIlroy seeks improvement

Rory McIlroy admits he has a few issues to resolve following his disappointing performance in the WGC-CA Championships in Doral.

McIlroy endured a tournament to forget in Miami as he failed to make any sort of impression, producing four over-par rounds to finish in a share of 65th on seven-over.

The Northern Irishman has been struggling with a back complaint for several weeks and while it did not give him any trouble over the week, he admits it is upsetting him.

With the US Masters just under a month away McIlroy has confirmed he will ease up on the physio work and will concentrate on sort out some of the issues that have developed to ensure he is ready for Augusta.

"I just didn't have it and haven't had it for the last couple of weeks. I've a few issues to sort out when I get home," McIlroy said after his final round 73.

"The back isn't worrying me, but it's getting me down. "Half of it is probably mental. I'm starting off in a negative mood."

It was a better week for Padraig Harrington as the triple Major winner finished in a share of third, seven strokes behind winner Ernie Els.

Harrington had moved into contention with a third round 67 but any hope he had a of winning ended when he notched up three consecutive bogeys from the 13th.

Nevertheless he was pleased to have got himself into a challenging position.

"I obviously struggled a bit all day," the Dubliner admitted.

"Those three holes were pretty simple up and downs and I didn't make them. I was hanging on a knife-edge all day, but I learnt a few things - as you always do in these situations.

"My bunker play was just not with it and my pitching could have been a bit better. You don't really see it until you are under pressure.

"I'm happy - I need to be competing and testing myself."
