Despite their failed attempt to make it onto the grid for 2010 the USF1 team are still hopeful of an F1 future.
That is according to a company that hired two engineers from the failed 2010 entrant, for whom financial constraints rendered an appearance on this year's grid as unsustainable and they failed to line up in Bahrain at the weekend as the season got underway.
According to several outlets, the South Carolina-based company Composite Resources, who recruited the engineers, said US F1 had 'suspended operations but is still hoping to field a car for the 2011 season'. That said it is not clear under what authority the comments were made.
FIA president Jean Todt said at the weekend that he was disappointed that they were unable to take part in the end this year, saying: "The World Council (of Motorsport) has asked me to review the situation, so we will see what happens. When I say that it's very disappointing I know that they have tried hard, made a lot of effort.
"As you all know (FIA Formula 1 Race Director) Charlie Whiting (pictured) went there and saw some facilities, and saw some cars under construction.
"Unfortunately it was not enough to have two cars at the start of the first Grand Prix."
No financial penalty has yet been levelled at the team and if their aspirations are not met by the appropriate infrastructure for a future crack at F1 then it would seem an unnecessary and pointless exercise if one was imposed.
