Doncaster assistant manager Richard O'Kelly has admitted the club can't afford to turn Billy Sharp's loan stay into a permanent move.
Sharp joined Donny in September on a season-long loan deal from local rivals Sheffield United and after scoring 15 goals in 30 games the striker has been a huge hit with the fans at the Keepmoat Stadium.
However, O'Kelly admits it is unlikely the club will be able to secure his services on a permanent basis due to financial constraints.
He said: "It depends who wins the lottery, out of me and Sean, to whether we can sign him permanently,
"We would love that to happen, but the financial constraints decide what we do at this football club.
"Some believe it is not speculating, others think it is good management, but in the present climate with football clubs going out of business and being taken to court puts our policy in a good light.
"
At the end of the day you want a successful football club that is still in existence in 10 or 15 years time.
"As much as we'd love to have Billy here next season, finances will determine whether we can do that."
