Barry Geraghty completed a quick-fire double when guiding Spirit River to a pleasing win in the Coral Cup.
On the back of winning the Queen Mother Champion Chase on Big Zeb, Geraghty settled Nicky Henderson's charge just behind the early leaders in the two-mile-five-furlong Grade Three.
He travelled superbly throughout and moved up as the second-last flight loomed into view. Some of his leading rivals, including stable companion Quantitativeeasing, were beginning to toil but Spirit River was full of running and quickened clear rounding the home turn.
A clean jump at the last allowed him to increase his lead and despite the best efforts of Tullamore Dew he stayed on well up the hill to take the honours by four and a half lengths.
Tullamore Dew had to settle for second by two and three-quarter lengths from James De Vassy with Michael Flips a further half length back in fourth.
"That was a good performance. They didn't go that quick so I made sure I was in a good position all the way and he jumped brilliantly for a five-year-old," Geraghty said.
"I had a fair idea he'd stay but he's only five - he did it really well.
"Nicky is the best man to ride for, especially here, he is such a gent and it makes my job easier."
