United coach Gary Speed has hailed the contribution of Nick Montgomery after he scored a rare goal in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Blackpool.
The midfielder last scored for the Blades in the league over four years but his effort in midweek helped the team on their way to three much-needed points in the race for the play-offs.
Speed could tell how much the goal meant to the player, who's best ever return for a season was three back in the 2003/2004.
The former Welsh international said: "He was made up because he scored and he deserved that because he has been fantastic all season - and probably our best player for the last two months or so.
"
Monty is a seasoned pro now and is still improving.
He never throws in the towel even when he virtually has to drag the team around.
The lad is Sheffield United all the way through."
