Brian Stock is hopeful he won't need a back operation and expects to return to action for Doncaster Rovers sooner rather than later.
Rovers influential skipper has been to see his specialist this week and he wasn't too concerned about the midfielder's condition although he didn't totally rule out the possibility of more surgery in the future.
His fitness problems have dogged him all season restricting to just 17 outings to date with the last of those coming against QPR back in February.
Stock told the Star, "The specialist has seen the scans of my back and he says that the surgery I had last summer has been a success and he doesn't see why I should get any recurrence in the future.
"
I saw him this week about my current back problem and he doesn't think that I will need an operation.
"Obviously if the symptoms do persist then he'll have to operate.
"
But he says that he doesn't want to operate and he doesn't feel as though my back needs it.
"I've had an injection to try and reduce the inflammation of the nerve. It is frustrating not being able to play; it's not been a good season.
"
It is the first time in my career that I've only played a handful of games; it is something new to me.
"Obviously I couldn't do that when I injured my ankle early in the season and needed an operation which kept me out for four months,
"No sooner had I got back playing again, than I started having problems with my back.
I've banged my head against a brick wall a few times but I've just got to get on with it.
"I'm hoping that once the back problem is cured that I'll be okay.
"
With my back having been in spasm my spine needs a lot of mobilising.
But once that is all done, and John the physio is happy with it, then I'll be back in training.
"How long will I be out? How long is a piece of string? "It's just a case of waiting until my body's right."
