Triple injury blow for Italy

by Rugby Staff , 19 March 2010

Andrea Masi, Carlo Del Fava and Paul Derbyshire have all been ruled out of Italy's RBS 6 Nations swansong with Wales on Saturday.

Masi misses out with a back injury and has been replaced in the team by Gonzalo Canale, while muscle knocks suffered in training by lock Del Fava and flanker Derbyshire mean they have failed to make the cut after being doubts, their places going to Marco Bortolami and Josh Sole. Valerio Bernabo and Manoa Vosawai are added to the replacements' bench.

Elsewhere, Pablo Canavosio has been rewarded for his impressive, try-scoring cameo in last weekend's defeat by France with the number nine jersey with Tito Tebaldi the man to make way.

Also in the back-line, Kaine Robertson earns a recall on the right wing and that sees the versatile Andrea Masi switch to outside centre and Gonzalo Canale drop to the bench.

Italy: L McLean; K Robertson, G Canale, G Garcia, Mirco Bergamasco; C Gower, P Canavosio; S Perugini, L Ghiraldini, M Castrogiovanni; Muaro Bortolami, Q Geldenhuys, J Sole, M Bergamasco, A Zanni.

Replacements: M Aguero, F Ongaro, V Bernabo, M Vosawai, T Tebaldi, R Bocchino, G Canale.
