Tamim Iqbal's 85 helped Bangladesh to 330-8 on day one of the second Test against England in Mirpur.
Tamim, who was celebrating his 21st birthday on Saturday, smashed 13 fours and a six from 71 balls but failed to become the fifth man to score a century in the first session of a Test match when he fell to debutant James Tredwell.
The England spinner also accounted for Shakib Al Hasan on 49 in the first over after tea to leave the hosts on 254-6.
First Test bowling hero Graeme Swann took 3-94 as he and Tredwell bowled 59 overs between them, while Stuart Broad, Steven Finn and Tim Bresnan also took wickets to prevent the hosts developing any solid partnerships throughout the day.
However the Tigers will hope Tamim's impressive knock and a 59 from Mohammed Mahmudullah will have given England something to think about especially if Naeem Islam and Shafiul Islam can form a tail-end partnership when the action resumes on Sunday.
