Rivals eye Doyle raid

Aston Villa are ready to battle it out with Everton for the signature of Wolves striker Kevin Doyle this summer.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has admitted he faces a huge struggle to keep hold of the Republic of Ireland ace if they are relegated and both Villa and Everton are keeping tabs on his situation.

McCarthy's men are battling for their lives and have a good chance of staying in the top flight after they drew 2-2 with Villa on Saturday while both Hull and Burnley both lost.

Doyle has hinted he could stay if Wolves stay up but offers will still come and McCarthy's resolve will be tested in the summer.

"Mick pulled me and a couple of others aside and told us that he planned to really strengthen the squad if we stayed up," Doyle revealed.

Tottenham and Fulham have also been linked and the striker may find it difficult to turn down the terms on offer if other clubs do coming knock at the end of the season.
