Gus McPherson believes St Mirren will never have a better chance to win a trophy after losing the CIS Cup final to Rangers on Sunday.
After dominating much of the first half and then having a two-man advantage, with Rangers having two players sent off, the Buddies fell to a late Kenny Miller goal at Hampden Park.
It was Saints first major final for 23 years and McPherson admits it was a fantastic opportunity to end their long run without a trophy.
The Buddies boss said: "It will live with the players for a long time. What a fantastic opportunity and it's a sore one for us, but we've got to take it on the chin.
"
We pushed as many players forward but we left ourselves open to the counter-attack.
We made wrong decisions and were punished for them."
