Fergie in the clear over German jibe

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will avoid any reprimand over his allegedly xenophobic comments after Wednesday night's Champions League quarter-final second leg tie against Bayern Munich.

United defeated their Bavarian rivals 3-2 on the night but bowed out of Europe on away goals, having been beaten 2-1 in Munich the week before.

Ferguson was furious with Bayern's players, though, for the role they played in the dismissal of United defender Rafael early in the second half.

The Scot claimed that referee Nicola Rizzoli had been pressurised into issuing the Brazilian right-back with a second yellow card.

"The young boy showed a bit of inexperience but they got him sent off, everyone sprinted towards the referee - typical Germans," Ferguson fumed afterwards.

The latter comment was viewed as inflammatory by many observes but UEFA confirmed on Thursday afternoon that no disciplinary action will be taken against the two-time Champions League winner.
