Bayern Munich are to contest the three-match ban imposed on Franck Ribery which will rule him out of the Champions League final.
Ribery was given a straight red card for a challenge on Lyon's Lisandro Lopez during Bayern's first leg victory over the French side at the Allianz Arena last week.
The automatic one-match ban meant he missed the second leg on Tuesday but UEFA have imposed a further three-match suspension following a meeting of the organisation's control and disciplinary body.
UEFA left the way clear for Bayern to appeal the verdict and the Bundesliga side have since confirmed that they will challenge the suspension.
"UEFA informed us of the decision, arguing that Franck Ribery was guilty (of serious foul play). We do not understand this decision in any way and consider it absolutely wrong," read a Bayern statement.
"Franck Ribery can certainly not be accused of violating his opponent intentionally. The player Lisandro Lopez was able to continue the game.
"Bayern and Franck Ribery will not accept the decision, but appeal and exhaust all possibilities."
