Ribery ruled out of CL final

Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery will miss the Champions League final after he was banned for three matches for a sending off against Lyon in the last four.

Ribery missed the second leg of the semi-final on Tuesday night but Chelsea had hoped that UEFA might cap the French winger's ban at one game, despite the fact that he was sent off for violent conduct.

However, the European governing body instead imposed a three-game suspension, meaning he will miss the final against either Inter Milan or Barcelona, and the first match of next year's competition.

"It was a foul from the front, not from behind or the side. It's debatable whether you should give anything at all, but if so, it's a yellow. A red card for that is very questionable," said Bayern president Uli Hoeness.

"Sending Franck off was definitely harsh," added chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "I think it was too much, but unfortunately we have to accept it."

Bayern have three days to appeal the decision.
