Bayern to appeal Ribery ban

Bayern Munich will appeal Frank Ribery's Champions League final ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Midfielder Ribery lost his appeal against the three-match suspension at a UEFA hearing in Nyon on Wednesday.

Ribery was dismissed for a stamp on Lisandro Lopez during the first leg of Bayern's semi-final against Lyon last month, a tie which the German side won 4-0 on aggregate.

The Bayern chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, confirmed the club's intention to go to the Lausanne-based CAS, sport's highest tribunal.

"The decision was very tough. We will fight on," said Rummenigge.

If CAS upholds Uefa's ruling, Ribery would also miss the first European club competition match for which he is eligible next season.
