An ankle injury could prevent Switzerland captain Alex Frei from playing in their World Cup opener against Spain.
Frei sustained the injury as he attempted to tackle team-mate Steve Von Bergen in training on Wednesday and was found to have bruising and a sprained ankle.
He was allowed to travel with the squad to Johannesburg and coach Ottmar Hitzfeld is hopeful the player will be fit to play in the Group H matches against Chile and Honduras.
"I leave in the belief that he will take part in the World Cup. He perhaps will not be ready for the first match but I will be able to call upon him after that," he said.
