Preview: Group H

by Setanta Staff , 10 June 2010

Spain would be most people's favourites not only to progress from Group H, but to win the World Cup outright. No arguments here.

Vicente del Bosque's squad is possibly the strongest at the tournament, with players of the calibre of Fabregas, Navas, Alonso, Mata and Torres not even guaranteed starting spots.

In winning the European Championships in 2008, Spain showed they now have the temperament as well as the flair to reap the top honours, while they are also blessed with a squad without any divisive influences.

Switzerland will be a 'blink and you'll miss them' side. Theirs is a squad of solid yet unspectacular performers, with midfielders Valon Behrami and Gokhan Inler their best players by some distance. Alex Frei's best days are behind him their panel is filled with 'never quite weres' such as Gelson Fernandes, Hakan Yakin and Reto Ziegler.

Honduras, on the other hand, could well advance to the next stage. They have steel in spades and some superior Premier League-based stars, such as Maynor Figueroa and Hendry Thomas of Wigan and Tottenham powerhouse Wilson Palacios (should he be fit). Striker David Suazo, now with Genoa, isn't bad either and they also have the magnificently named Georgie Welcome in attack.

Finally, Chile finished second to Brazil in qualifying but it's hard to see them advancing in their first finals for twelve years. Striker David Pizarro has retired and they are left with a squad lacking in experience and real quality - winger Mark Gonzalez was a Liverpool flop.

Who will go through: Spain, Honduras.
