Rocco Mediate, the 2008 runner-up, has accepted a place at the US Open.
The American player was just edged out by Tiger Woods after a playoff at Torrey Pines Golf Course two years ago. This time around he gets in as St Jude Classic winner Lee Westwood was already in the field.
Westwood won last weekend’s St Jude Classic, so the place on offer for any player who won multiple PGA Tour co-sponsored events between June 21, 2009 and June 13, 2010 was offered to Mediate as he was the first alternative after sectional qualifying.
The United States Golf Association confirmed his participation in what will be his 15th US Open in a news release.
The second major of the year gets underway on Thursday.
