Lennon brings back Celtic old boy

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has completed the signing of defender Charlie Mulgrew.

Mulgrew, who returns to the club having progressed through their youth system before leaving for Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2006, has signed a three-year deal with the Bhoys.

The left-sided player, who can also operate on the wing, has spent the last two years with Aberdeen. The 24-year-old has also previously had loan spells with Dundee United and Southend United, but his performances at Pittodrie are what have convinced Lennon to bring him back to Parkhead.

There had been some speculation that Mulgrew had agreed a move to Sheffield United but it is Celtic who have won his signature and he is likely to soon be joined in green and white by South Korea World Cup star Cha Du-ri, who is due to undergo a medical with the Bhoys.

Lennon said of his new addition: “Charlie has signed and I am pretty pleased about that. He was a kid who was here and went away.

"He went to play in England and had a great spell at Aberdeen and outside the Old Firm we felt he was one of the best players in the SPL."
