Baggies boing beyond Orient

West Bromwich Albion earned a 2-0 Carling Cup second round win over Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road on Tuesday.

A completely changed side from the one that defeated Sunderland at the weekend helped Roberto Di Matteo's side through as summer signing Pablo Ibanez and New Zealand striker Chris Wood got the goals.

Jamie Jones saved early from Giles Barnes before the League One side gave Albion a scare when debutant Boaz Myhill was called on to deny a Scott McGleish effort from the edge of the box.

Luke Moore then fired wide for West Brom and saw a subsequent effort kept out superbly by Jones before the Baggies hit the front.

Teenage debutant Sam Mantom sent in a free-kick from the left and Ibanez got his head to it to send home his first goal for the club.

Simon Cox then fired over as Di Matteo's men looked to extend their advantage, and Jones had to save from Bednar to keep Orient in it at just 1-0 down at the break.

They showed more in attack after the break as McGleish steered another header wide from an Adam Chambers set-up and Myhill then saved another headed effort from the veteran front man.

Wood, on for Bednar, knocked the ball down for Cox as the Baggies' search for a second continued but he failed to score and it looked like the margin of victory might just be one.

But, right at the death, Wood scored West Brom's second when he cut in from the right and fired the ball beyond the unlucky Jones.
