by Setanta Staff , 02 September 2010

Fred Couples has signalled his intention to play the Australian Open later this year.

Couples joined the Champions Tour this year but showed he can still take on the younger generation when finishing sixth in the US Masters and he will join the likes of Adam Scott, Greg Norman, Geoff Ogilvy and John Daly in playing at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney from December 2-5.

"I am very much looking forward to playing in the Australian Open," Couples said in a statement.

"I have not been to Sydney for some time and look forward to visiting this magnificent city once again."

Speaking on Couples decision to plat the Australian Open, Golf Australia chief executive Stephen Pitt said: "Fred is an outstanding competitor and one of the world's most exciting players to watch.

"Watching both the Presidents Cup captains alongside fan favourite John Daly will be a major thrill for our crowds."

The Australian Open is the penultimate tournament on the OneAsia Tour.
