Rangers centre-half Madjid Bougherra has ruled out joining Arsenal in January after being linked with the club this summer.

The Algeria international has been linked with a move away from Ibrox during the close season having impressed in the last campaign as he played a big part in helping the Gers win the Scottish Premier League.

With Arsenal having been on the look-out for new centre-halves during the transfer window there had been speculation Arsene Wenger would make a move for the 27-year-old.

Having lost four centre-backs during the summer Wenger had been expected to bring in a raft of replacements but eventually only signed Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci.

The Gunners boss is believed to have been considering whether or not to bring in another defender when the transfer window reopens in January and has subsquently been linked with Bougherra again.

However, the Rangers defender has poured cold water on any move to the Emirates Stadium by claiming he will stay in Glasgow.

"I am happy at Rangers," said Bougherra.

"It's now certain I won't be leaving. My family are happy here and I am happy on the pitch. That makes me satisfied."
