Hat-trick aim for Quevega

The David Nicholson Mares' Hurdle is likely to be the aim for Quevega once again this season, Willie Mullins has suggested.

Quevega defied a 296-day lay-off when she stormed to a second successive David Nicholson Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March before going on to land the Ladbrokes.com World Series Hurdle in impressive style at Punchestown the following month.

Immediately after her success at Punchestown Mullins hinted that the six-year-old could drop back to two miles this season, leading to speculation that she could be tested in the Champion Hurdle, but the Irish champion trainer is leaning towards the mares contest.

"She's just been in a couple of days and has done well from her summer break," Mullins told At The Races. "If all goes well and she gets back to Cheltenham, you'd have to think at this stage of the year she'd be aiming for the mares' race.

"It's so far away but we'd definitely be aiming for Cheltenham and I don't think she'll have too many runs before that. We'll see how she takes her training."
