Maria Sharapova enjoyed an easy passage into the third round of the US Open as she defeated Iveta Benesova in straight sets.
Despite the windy conditions on Arthur Ashe Stadium, the 23-year-old had the measure of her Czech Republic from the start and did not face a single break point on her way to a 6-1 6-2 win.
"I knew during warm-up it was a little gusty and I was playing a lefty and hadn't played one in a while so I knew it was going to be a little bit tricky," Sharapova said.
Next up for Sharapova is American wildcard Beatrice Capra who defeated 18th seed Aravane Rezai 7-5 2-6 6-3.
The 18-year-old will be hoping she can follow in the footsteps of Melanie Oudin who knocked Sharapova out of the competition at the same stage last year. However, she knows that she faces a tough test against the Russian.
"I think it will be an amazing experience. I know she's just such a tough competitor," Capra told reporters.
"When I was younger I used to always look up to her so I think it will be a really good match for me to see where I am compared to that kind of level."
Top seed Caroline Wozniacki also enjoyed an easy time of things against Chang Kai-chen of Chinese Taipei.
Last year's defeated finalist needed just 47 minutes to record a 6-0 6-0 win and remain on course for a clash with Sharapova in the fourth round, although she is refusing to look beyond her next match.
"I never look at the draw. You never know what's going to happen in tennis, so I don't say 'I'm going to play this girl in the quarter-final'. You need to fight for every match," she said.
