Halford wanted at Pompey

Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill is keen on keeping Wolves midfielder Greg Halford at the club beyond his loan deal.

The 25-year-old appears to be out of favour at Molineux and is on a three-month loan deal at Pompey.

And Cotterill is now hoping he can speak to Mick McCarthy about extending the loan when it is up for renewal.

"I don't know if we will be extending Greg's loan, we haven't had that conversation yet," Cotterill told Portsmouth daily, The News.

"He has only just got here and only played three games. We will give it a couple more weeks before I give Mick McCarthy a ring.

"Now we've got Greg in, we are okay back there for cover. We are still a little bit light with Dicko (Carl Dickinson).

"If something happens with him then it brings Hermann into the equation, but does it bring him in too quick or early?

"I don't quite know the answer to that one, if I am honest. We are all right defensively, though.

"We have been very light there and now it has been absolutely supplemented by loanees."
