Defender Glen Johnson is set to make his return in Liverpool's Europa League Group K tie with Napoli at Anfield.
The England defender has missed the last four matches with a thigh problem.
Dirk Kuyt (ankle), Fabio Aurelio (groin) and Joe Cole (hamstring) all miss out, while Daniel Agger has travelled to London to see a specialist about his calf injury. Ryan Babel could start on the bench after a rib injury.
Manager Roy Hodgson said that he will field a strong side, although he refused to say whether Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres would play.
"We'll have a strong team out on Thursday, we won't rest too many," he said.
"When you're playing these European games it's the travelling that's one of the worst aspects.
"You're away for three days and you're very concerned about the way the players will react, not just to the game but also the travelling.
"At home it's a slightly lesser problem but of course we need to look at the minutes people are playing and try to keep some sort of balance there.
"Of course there are international games coming up as well and some players might get a week without a game and others won't - so we have to take that into consideration."
Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri will start Edinson Cavani , after resting the Uruguay international striker at the weekend as Napoli beat Brescia 1-0 in Serie A.
Walter Gargano and Michele Pazienza will play in midfield, while Hugo Campagnaro, Salvatore Aronica and Paolo Cannavaro will make up a back three.
